Vivian Maier, a street photographer from the 1950s – 1990s. Vivian’s work was discovered at an auction here in Chicago where she resided most of her life. Her discovered work includes over 100,000 mostly medium format negatives, thousands of prints, and a ton of undeveloped rolls of film.”

Cool story but the pictures themselves are something else. I love the stories, people and eye for details. The world was so different back then. Truly fascinating.

They’re making a doc about Vivian and her discovered work will soon be available in print. For now you can check out her work via Google Images or this blogspot. Thanks for sharing Mr. Stuart.

Carcrush: Alfa Alfetta GTV

alf1

The Alfa Romeo Alfetta is an Italian rear-wheel drive executive saloon car and fastback coupé produced from 1972 until 1987 by Alfa Romeo. It was popular due to its combination of a modest design with powerful engines.”

The Alfetta first went in production somewhere in ’74, but I like the more plastic, less elegant and more muscly GTV that came out in ’81 the most.

2011 comes with some goals. One of them is to finally buy a car (I know I reside in Amsterdam where no car is needed, ever). Would be so fuckin’ rad if I could drive this baby.

FILLING PIECES, SWURDIN INSPIRED

22

Homie Guillame has been makin’ some big big moves with his shoe wear line Filling Pieces lately. For spring summer 2011 he decided to do a boatshoe inspired by the colors of Swurdin. BIG! I really really appreciate it and I love the green and yellow together, the leather with the suede and the build of the shoe. This looks great!

Same goes for the rest of the collection. Check it out here.

BE A MAN, MANZINE

manzine1

Way better written than anything on this blog and with more jokes – like humor jokes, to laugh about – yesterday the new issue of Manzine came in, a magazine about ‘the male ‘phenomenon’.

I think I told you this before but it’s kinda like a spoof on normal ‘man mags’ and is written, edited and compiled by the very best of british manglossy’s and style magazines. This issue teaches us baby’s are the new exclusive sneakers, gives us inside information on inter-gender relationships from a girl perspective and rants against (thank you from the bottom of my heart for this, I fuckin’ can’t stand..) cupcakes.

Also; they got hipprepter advertising on lock. If you’re a brand or webstore this is the way to role. OiPollio targets a relevant audience with a tailor made custom design while showing they’re ‘in the know’. Advertorial gone good gettin’ that targeted niche marketing on. Like!

Get Manzine here. Do it or be a woman.

THE ART OF RE-USE

A bit pretentious on first sight but I really like this small documentary on thrifting, vintage clothing and the art of gettin’ dressed on the budget of Happy Meal. It dips into the trend of vintage boutiques; small shops thrifting clothes for a buck, washing and ironing them and putting them for 10 times the costs on a hanger (American Appy and Urban Outfitters do this). Interesting.

Sounds like big business but I rather pick my thrifts from a pile. No shame in my game plus an already ‘curated’ boutique somewhat takes the thrill of finding that one unique item away.

PS. Maybe we should stop calling this ‘documentaries’ at some point. Documentaries are a 1.5 hour quest to get to the bottom of things, these small TV like items on anything hipster culture or trend are not. Thoughts?

BAGS, FORM VERSUS FUNCTIONALITY

LeatherMasonBag_large

I’ve been carrying around a black Carhartt backpack for some years now. For short periods of time the quite ugly but functional pack has been replaced for all kinds of backpacks, canvas shoppers, man-bags or basically anything that could hold my Macbook and some other smaller stuff.

Somehow I always get back to the black pack thoo. It isn’t entirely in style with who I think I am, but replacing it seems kinda hard. Other packs just aren’t that functional, especially while riding bikes. Problem! A solution? I found none.

But I found my next possible alternative in this real nice canvas bag by Mason. Nice priced, big, quality and I kinda like the white and yellow in combination with a more dark-toned winter uniform.

INTRODUCING MENANDSTYLE.NL

menandstyle02

Together with @Blokhut I decided it was time for something new. We always felt like doing business together and a month or so ago we decided to launch a new Dutch style-platform.

MenandStyle.nl is a new, fast content news-blog for savvy nu-dandy’s. It tells you how to dress, what to buy, what the latest trends and revelations are and keeps you up to date on the most interesting fashion releases nationally and internationally. Out of love and necessity, but also definitely for the cash. Makin’ money blogging will be a new and interesting adventure, lots to learn.

In the very very near future we’re looking for editors (paid) but I’ll come back on that one. For now a Facebook Like is appreciated. You can also follow us on Twitter.

We’ll be online somewhere next week. Let’s go!
