Merry Xmas and a massive NYE! We’ll be back on the 1st (okay, maybe the 2nd) of January. Kisses!

The Linkout, Week 51

rl-garage-ss01

“You can talk all you want about perfect country houses, but it was classic automobiles that Ralph Lauren pined for when he was growing up.” A look inside the garage of world’s greatest clothing designer. Story here.

Humor. Skill. Wit. Sex appeal. That order.” Robert Redfort on everything. Fuck yeas!

“We had failed as a country because we have not been sharing the information that we needed. We in the middle of an information famine.” The documentary on WikiLeaks. Very interesting, well told and informing.

“It’s exciting to witness how digital is allowing young filmmakers to shoot fast, cheap and in total creative control.” Good summary on how digital film making is changing the industry.

“Das Racist LIVE in Amsterdam” Cool short registration of the most horrible performance ever.

Swimming Pool, Side Out & Easy A

swimmingpool

“A British mystery author visits her publisher’s home in the South of France, where her interaction with his unusual daughter sets off some touchy dynamics.”

Swimming Pool is a 2003 arthouse flick staring my new favorite French girl Ludivine Sagnier. Sarah seems narrow minded and withdrawn, Julie is a sexual active and wild girl. At first their relation encounters a lot of friction but as time passes the two gain a weird fascination for each other (Sarah likes to watch how Julie fucks people). A bit slow but with a roller coaster ending and a pair of the most interesting titties in cinematographic history. Play.

sideout

“A law student comes to California for the summer and ends up playing professional volleyball.”

Side Out is a horrible movie. Poor storyline, the acting sucks and there aren’t much action shots (this is a sports movie). But the hotties, beachy vibe, pre-hipster use of neon and soundtrack make up for all of this. It’s that movie you can just watch over and over again. It’s all about the Good Life! Play.

easya

“A high school student relies on the school’s rumor mill to advance her social and financial standing.”

A young Emma Stone (the chick from Zombieland) is sarcastically funny in Easy A. Instead of building on her high school reputation she explores destroying hers completely. Dan Humphrey playing her love interest is (as always) annoying as hell but that doesn’t stop this from being awesome. Cool ‘social medias’ storytellin’ andsome awesome references to Sixteen Candles, Ferris Bueller and whatnot 80′s classic included. Play.

The Making Of Illmatic

Picture 1

“The way he comes with his ideas and the way he hits it, it’s clearly poetry.”

An all-star line up on production and an eager, young and feisty Nasir Jones on the iron mic equals Illmatic, one of the – if not – best hiphop albums ever made. Somewhere last year I shared the written making of done by XXL with you via Rapper I Know. Now I recently crossed this small video item on Illmatic.

Pete Rock, Tip, Primo, Large Professor and Nas himself share thoughts on the album, the beats, his lyrics and the way he takes hiphop and the world. It ain’t hard to tell this is mad interesting. Watch!

Take notes on dressing for cold weather. I love early 90′s streetwear.

VADO! SLIME FLU MIXTAPE

vado

Vado. His name originally stands for ‘Voilence And Drugs Only’ which is kinda lame, he hangs around Killa Cam and does the rappin’ about money, drugs and hoes a lot. Cliché thuggy rap by not the best rapper around. More Dipset. Less nostalgy.

So what sets this dude apart? Well, somewhat Vado reminds me a bit of Memphis Bleek; not the best rapper in his crew but with a drive to develop, kinda rigid flow with great timing, hefty adlibs, rawness and swag for years.

His latest mixtapes kinda sums up what he’s about. Downloawd:

THE LINKOUT, WEEK 50

Picture 18

“Pharrell Williams Home in Miami” The Selby visited Pharrell in his Miami mansion. Now I like the house but it’s really all money no taste on the artwork and interior design.

“This is crazy, you know it all. This is incredible.” Nardwuar meets J. Cole talkin’ Jay Z, No Limit, Outkast, Souls Of Mischief and Focus. One of the best episodes yet.

“Want something only available in Japan? These services, which will buy and ship them to you, are easier to use than you think.” For all y’all loaded internet-prepsters.

“Filmpgraphy 2010″ Great mash-up of 270 movies made this year. In order of appearance here.

“Don’t u already ‘have enough’? Can’t u just ‘give it up’, bro?” Between the lines HRO is the best trendreport on the internet. Here’s a small analysis of TIME’s person of the year Marky Mark Zuckerberg.

JUSTIN BLYTH TALKIN' THANGS

Dutch magazine Blend did a little video interview wiv Justin Blyth of Them Thangs. You know, that dude collecin’ pictures of weird, old and nude things. Swell. I like this Blend, good busy!

Spike Lee Taught Me Well

shehateme

Yesterday Spike Lee lectured in the Stadsschouwburg. Great man with a sharp and inspiring vision on who he is, how people behold him and how he contributed to film, culture and the world. No bullshit from this dude.  There were a lot of lessons to be learned, this is what I picked up…

1. You can do whatever you want. There is always a way to get what you want. Use knowledge, hard work, doin’ the right things, support and advice from relatives and connections and a fair amount of luck to get it. Hustle. Ask. Bluff. Whatever it takes.

2. Never blame others and stop complaining. You’re not gettin’ no roles because you’re black you dumb fuck. You’re not getting any roles ’cause you don’t have your shit straight and complain (to Spike Lee of all people) ‘the white man’ doesn’t give you any roles. FU Mike Libanon.

3. Life is about making choices. Learning is knowing why others made certain choices. Never stop learning, but also never stop teaching. Take and give. Education is important and the answer to lots of the worlds problems.

4. Use who you are in your advantage. Who you are distinguishes you from others and makes you unique. Fair warning: don’t overdo it, it will become gimmicky at some point.

5. There are such things as stupid questions. Also, if you’re asking for a favor from someone as Spike Lee have your absolute best together. Don’t ask him if you could do an interview when you don’t have a direction, place to publish it or the right equipment. Really.

THE LURV TAPES, NOT YOUR AVERAGE SEXTAPE

bus2

This is for lovers, or maybe it is not. Dynooo send me this really weird but awesome mixtape yesterday and I’m really amazed with it. I have no idea who Henny Moan is, what the concept behind the tape is or what 90 percent of the music featured on it is, but I loves it.

Shack up with a ladyfriend, take it slow and play this back to back with some Stereolab. Have fun!

FILLING PIECES, SWURDIN INSPIRED

22

Homie Guillame has been makin’ some big big moves with his shoe wear line Filling Pieces lately. For spring summer 2011 he decided to do a boatshoe inspired by the colors of Swurdin. BIG! I really really appreciate it and I love the green and yellow together, the leather with the suede and the build of the shoe. This looks great!

Same goes for the rest of the collection. Check it out here.
