ODD FUTURE, WEIRD HIPHOP DONE RIGHT

Buzzin’ around the blogs is a 10 heads strong LA based hiphop crew called Odd Future. If you thought Lil B was a retard you haven’t met these guys yet. Many describe them as MF Doom meets Gravediggaz, Das Racist meets DMX or Wu Tang meets Eminem. I’d say non of the above.

So what is Odd Future? I’ve downloaded most of their tapes from their Tumblr and have some mixed feelings about ‘em. They rap about rape fantasies, suicide, the Supreme box logo and cum a lot. They hate Jerkin’ and blogs like Nah Right and 2dopeboyz, use the word swag too often and aren’t afraid to pull out the Swastika. Doesn’t sound like anything you want to be close to right?

Maybe. But there is another side to Odd Future. When not braggin’ about fucking drunk white girls a lot of personal stuff comes out about their family ties, depressions and real relationships with girls. Like Lil B they don’t apply filters and just rap what comes to mind. Combine that with some catchy but simple Fruityloops beats, skills and no mince you got the next notorious rap crew.

Now I especially dig the leader of the pack called Tyler The Creator. I’d even dare to say his album Bastard is the second best hiphop album to come out this year. His heavy voice, weird metaphors and amazing storytelling skills are impressive with lots of indie rap influences. Hater rap, love it:
