“Nothing is original. Steal from anywhere that resonates with inspiration or fuels your imagination. Devour old films, new films, music, books, paintings, photographs, poems, dreams, random conversations, architecture, bridges, street signs, trees, clouds, bodies of water, light and shadows. Select only things to steal from that speak directly to your soul. If you do this, your work (and theft) will be authentic.”
I finally got a change to see Catfish, yeah that other movie about Facebook. I expected nothing but it was really intrueging.
Story: Some second generation douchebag NYC filmschool hipsters (you know the kind that discovered American Appy in 2008 and not 2006) make friends with a family online. When in the neighborhood they decide to go pay a visit, but not everything is exactly what they expected (trailer).
Now the movie is interesting, the questions that it raises are more. The documentary style filming and goofness of the Punjab brother filmmakers really ad to a story that really exposes the pro’s, con’s, opportunities and threats of the ‘social’ internet.
What’s real and what’s not? What does your profile say about who you are? How much value can you subscribe to an online relation? How real are online contacts anyways? And who should you cybersex wiv and who not? Interesting stuff.
Best no-budget movie to come out in a while.. Go see this!
Doing all the buttons on a shirt, top one included? Simple question, difficult to answer. I say:
No, in most cases. Whilst it can look good on some, it does not on the majority of people. More often than not it turns a perfectly alright outfit into something overly styled. That one button means the difference between appearing careless or looking contrived and very much thought about. You risk instantly killing all nonchalance, making most guys look like they try to hard.
Maybe, but just maybe I’d consider when layering with a cardigan or blazer on top, shirt tucked in, for a clean and slick look. And if going after that rebellious working class vibe it can come out looking alright like the above guy shows. Hence buttoning up has long been the way to go for skinheads, football ‘casuals’ and other tough guys.
Yes, but this kinda goes without sayin’; always button up when wearing a tie or bow tie. Keeping the top button open whilst wearing a tie is for footballers only, not the guys to be considered style icons.
My main man and musical connoisseur extraordinaire Jeff Solo just released this new mixtape onto the world wide interspace. Jeff takes it slow whilst gettin’ you amped about doing drugs. It’s full of stuff they’ve probably played at Studio 54.
Now I can’t really release a tracklist but I can say it has some exclusives like a new track by Mercury and edits from the Parra Soundsystem album (yes, there’s apparently gonna be an album?). Enjoy the fuck out of this like snorting sos from a hookers dick. #Pause.
“It’s hard to follow the plot because we’re looking at the clothes.”
My thoughts exactly when it comes to this years HBO hit series Boardwalk Empire. I’m struggling to stay interested in the somewhat sluggish story, but the looks of the show, they more than make up for this. Every episode Nucky comes out sporting yet another bizarre suit in a style I’ve seen nowhere else.
Responsible for this look is 82 year old Brooklyn-based tailor by the name of Martin Greenfield. He’s an influential face in NYC, tailors the big screen but is also responsible for the suits of guys like Bill Clinton and even the dressy garments by hipster brands like Band of Outsiders and Rag & Bone.
Even better is this beautiful short documentary called ‘Lessons from a Tailor’. Impressive story of a gentleman who started his career in concentration camp and worked his way up to world’s greatest. Martin shares a lot of truths about tailoring and life. Watch, listen and learn.
I like this song but I love this video. The setting fits the song perfectly, the effect are refreshing effects and the colors beautiful.
The Pendleton shirt and ranger hat fit Theophilus well, way better than the Starter caps and denim shirts. Also really love the glasses by Mosely Tribes.
Fuck you Joaquin Phoenix for ruining a good 100 minutes of my life and a year plus of yours.
A year and some a go JP decided to stop acting, start a rap carreer. Casey Affleck was filming the process and showcases the fall and fall of what once was a good looking and talented artist (trailer).
Now I get the experiment: ruin your carrier, see how far you can push it and how peoples and media react. And I get how this movie should be hard to watch, it should be hard to watch someone ruining his perfect life.
What I don’t get is that everything is staged. That means P. Diddy, Letterman and Ben Stiller were all in the plot. That means it is not an experiment to fool the industry and the media (fun and smart) but merely an experiment that’s set up to expose how stupid the world is (not fun nor smart).
Also not impressed with the whole ‘I’m not the Joaquin the people expect me to be’ and trying to define succes act either. Dude, your a fucking millionaire get over trying to be deep or meaningful.
If you’re into media this can be an interesting case to look into, if else: big fuckin’ waste of your time.
