Rory Peezy, The Otherside 2005

Picture 5

Shuffling iTunes last night I bumped into this old mixtape I made in 2005. The mellow vibe and shitloads of dope tracks I haven’t heard for years really pulled me back into it again. Can’t believe how my musical taste evolved for the worse throughout the years. Hahahaha.

I wasn’t really able to mix one and one together back then but blended everything into a solid entity quite alrighty I must say. No fuckups. Expect muchos Stones Throw music, some ‘underground’ hiphop from a few back, Opgezwolle and random soundbites. I threw together a little tracklist, feel free to fill the holes. Perfect for a lazy sunny day, enjoy!

GIVEAWAY: HAPPY SOCKS

happysocks

With this kinda weather I usually go commando on the feet like Reinout Oerlemans. But when it’s a little bit colder I like to wear all types of socks. Now that the average sneaker is going from colorway circus-act to the latest edition of Sensation White it might be a good time to focus on the socks.

Socks are fun! They’re that little aspect of your outfit in which you can go all out. You can wear a suit but go with some pink on yellow socks. I decided to give away 10 pair of Happy Socks courtesy of Men At Work. Let me know which shoes or sneakers you would combine these pink bastards with in the comments!

SAMPLE: THE DIPLOMATS – SALUTE!

Dipset! I’m a fan. Great music and ridiculous styles is a WIN. Honestly, for me Cam’ron is one of the most innovative rappers ever. So when the crew decided to make some more music I was mad stoked. The final result got me even more excited. I love Salute and thinks it can easily fits in the line of classics line I Really Mean It, Get Em Girls, Santana’s Town and Hey Ma.

Funny to know the sample from this joint comes from an old hardcore track by Dutch producer Nosferatu. Eurohouse samplin’ done right. Great job Araab. The track is in the latest installment of Girls & Beats, the sample on Youtube or below (around 2.30 minutes).

DOCUMENTARY: FADED BLUE PLANET

Exit sneakerheads, enter denimheads. Exit Just for Kicks, enter Faded Blue Planet. From the looks of it this documentary set for release later this year is likely to become the ultimate guide to the world of denim just like Just for Kicks was to the world of sneakers.

I always have a great deal of respect for passionate filmmakers that are both able to carefully explain the story to the biggest of noobs out there and still manage to keep the in-the-know crowd surprised and entertained. This 10 minute trailer, featuring Japanese indigo dyeing, a 12000 piece denim collector, and a porn actor turned jeansmaker, sure has got me looking out for this one.

TALK: THE NEW FRESHCOTTON

Picture 1

Online superstore and BBF’s 4 life Freshcotton just launched there new website a few days a go meanwhile changin’ their game a little bit. Making it better for the people for the world. Or something. Albert Visser who does marketing at The Fresh and is from Urk explains a little something something about the new Freshcotton. Interesting ass read if you’re into marketing, clothing, style, Albert Visser or spending time online.

First, I just wanted to say I’m very glad you finally sell bikini’s
“We have many more bikini’s but it’s hard to find models. So if someone offers his girlfriend… Small price, great reward.”

So, what the hell was wrong with the old site?
“We wanted to make a difference among all of the good product we show, since we only had one page to showcase it all we noticed a lot of product got by unseen and didn’t get the showtime they deserved. So we made three segments to ultimately make a difference.. The other thing is the ‘maturing’ of streetwear, which is something that has been inevitable. Other online stores have also been making this move since it’s the way the market moves.”

Sike! I heard someone say it kinda looks like Caliroots.. coincidence?
“A few months ago Caliroots introduced the same concept. For us it was a sign that we were right on track. People who came around our office the last few months will admit that they saw early sketches of this project. Way before Caliroots made their move. Oh, that will be even you Rory. But nevertheless we have mad respect for Cali so we can’t say we also don’t look at them, but I know for a fact they also check our shit.”

Selected, Street and Merch. Uuuh, what’s the difference?
“Streetwear is where we come from. Some people say streetwear is dead, but we believe what Bobby Hundreds once said; Streetwear isn’t dead, it’s just different. Merch is our selection merchandise products. We’re happy to sell cool merchandise from respected bands, festivals and parties. Merchandise is a good market to be in since merchandise became a main focus for record labels. We expect that in the near future exciting things will happen in that market.”

I am really excited about the Selected store…..
“We are going to focus more on the product itself. It comes down showing more quality product and thus we chose to shoot everything in sets on models so you can get some insight on how to combine certain pieces and brands. It’s not that we think about pushing the hardest brands, but just the evolving of streetwear into menswear and finding a parallel in all of that.”

“The other thing is experiencing a more cohesive shopping environment by concentrating the brands to a more comprehensive level. A customer that likes a certain style will not be distracted by other things (like for example merchandise from Slayer) in his segment. Some new brands for Fall/Winter 2010 are WoodWood, Libertine Libertine, Abington, HUF and Carhartt Import USA Workwear.”

Are you mad at me Albert?
“I’m never mad. As i said before on Twitter. How Long is chill AZN bro. So am I.”

If you are John Mayer this is what your life looks like. But you are not John Mayer, but you could smell li.. ow wait! Anyways, I love how honest and real this is (or feels). It’s like a day of the life of Mayer in pictures but in film. Does that make any sense?
